“La grammatica” by Labiche

I am working on the translation of another one-act play by Eugène Labiche, La grammatica, in which the famous French playwright stages the misadventures of Caboussat, a former merchant who would like to make a political career but doesn’t know spelling at all because he had little chance to study as a boy.
He is helped by his devoted daughter Blanche, who writes him all the speeches trying to make him pass as a scholar. Caboussat will have to deal with a fellow passionate archaeologist who will turn his garden upside down, discovering old chamber pots, with a vet who kills animals and a clumsy servant who breaks everything.
This new translation pays more attention to the references contained in the work and any puns and double entendres.
